Alex Fink is a Los Angeles based musician, guitar repair tech and luthier.  Having played guitar from the age of 7, and coming from a long line of builders and tinkerers, making a way in luthiery became as much an inevitability as a passion.  L.A. native Fink spent his adolescent years frankensteining guitars together in his parent's garage, and as a Studio/jazz guitar major at USC, started a side business repairing student's and professor's instruments. After acquiring his degree, Fink kept up studying the art and craft of guitar repair and luthiery while sub-contracting for the Gibson/Baldwin showroom in Beverly Hills as their on-call tech.  From there, Fink went on to work in the repair departments of LA guitar shops, the quality control room of the Eastman distribution center, and as a ghost builder for other parts-build based guitar brands.  All the while, he kept his skid-row based shop open for custom builds and repair work.

okay, that’s enough 3rd person speech.

Nowadays, I work out of the shop at my Monterey Park home, focusing primarily on building archtop and solid body guitars. I’m open to virtually any project with frets and strings except flat-top guitars and mandolins… please no mandolins. Other than the former two genres, my specialty lies in arch top acoustic guitars, solid body electrics, and extended range or odd-scale length versions of either, be it baritone, 7 string or short-scale terz. I do take a lot of pride in making as many parts in-house as is possible, but I’m not adverse to using 3rd party, vintage, or aftermarket parts in new projects and basing builds around new and interesting ideas or concepts.

Don’t hesitate to contact me and we can start discussing your new instrument.
